My thoughts on this season:
The dinosaurs are back, though not the way you remember them. Unlike MMPR, Dino Thunder was not a direct comeback of the great prehistoric creatures, but rather a modern reinterpretation of the theme. The Dino Thunder Zords feel more technical and far more stylized than their early predecessors. Each Zord is clearly assigned to a specific Ranger, which keeps the structure easy to follow.
The AbarenOh takes center stage in the season and follows a clear combination scheme, similar to what we saw earlier in Ninja Storm, with three Zords forming a solid core structure. It is complemented by additional standalone Zords that expand the system without fundamentally changing it.
As was already the case with the Lost Galaxy GigaBitus, the Brachiosaurus's proportions don't match those of the regular Zords either. Instead of full DX Zords, the set therefore only includes miniature versions.
A particularly interesting side note is the Bakuryuu Dimenokodon in its fire variant, Firenokodon. This version appeared exclusively in a Japanese audio drama, in which the AbarenOh Nokodon Fire could be formed. It was only available as a Lucky Draw item, making it a limited release. Accordingly, caution is advised, since painted Bakuryuu Dimenokodon are occasionally offered as this variant. As appealing as such custom versions can be, they are not an official release, even if they're well crafted.
Another special case is the Blizzard Force Megazord. This variant only existed as a toyline color variant. It is based on the so-called Replicantzord, which in the series itself consists merely of the Carnozord and the Chasmozord. For the toyline, this concept was expanded and complemented by the Arctic Pterazord, which was developed exclusively for the toy. In this color scheme and configuration, it is clearly a toyline variant.
