Series Zords 5
My thoughts on this season:
Here the Rangers carry a badge. SPD is set in the future and combines classic Ranger elements with a heavily police- and military-themed approach.
The SPD zords are designed as response vehicles and tactical units. Functional, futuristic designs dominate.
The Dekaranger Robo stands as the first Main Zord of the season and, for the first time again, follows the classic 5-zord combination principle.
One special feature of SPD is the clear separation between Main Megazords, Carrier Zords and supporting units. The DekaBike Robo and the DekaWing Robo considerably expand the zord line-up without representing classic extensions of the same Megazord.
This clean distribution of roles gives the season a very structured zord hierarchy.
A personal highlight within the SPD season is, for me, the connection between the DekaBike Robo and the Dekaranger Robo through the motorcycle function. There had been Carrier Zords before, of course, but these mostly felt like separate units that were docked on rather than truly integrated. With the DekaBike Robo this connection feels much more organic. As the main zord's motorcycle, it is not just a means of transport but is clearly integrated into the overall concept, both functionally and visually. As a result, it noticeably sets itself apart, for me, from the previously typical Carrier principle and takes on an independent role within the zord hierarchy, somewhere between an extension, support unit and a Megazord of its own.
Another interesting detail within the SPD toyline is the Blast Buggy. Just like the Deluxe Time Jet, it occupies an unusual in-between role. The Blast Buggy is not a standalone zord in the classic sense, but functions primarily as a support and expansion unit. It can be combined with the Dekaranger Robo and adds extra functions and weaponry to it, without itself being part of the actual zord combination.
